mini experiment: tufted batik

batik always inspire us to perform various experiments. one of our way is to apply tufting technique that gives the effect of three-dimensional texture which is unique like ruffles :)

batik motifs type: bilik from west java
fabric type: pekalongan super silk
batik technique type: batik stamp

mini experiment: patchworking batik stamp

Many people underestimate batik stamp, and even consider it equivalent to the batik print (fabric made with batik image only, not the batik technique). Fyi, it is different. Batik stamp is an alternative to the technique of batik with quicker way (but still not easy).

we try to experiment to optimize the use of batik stamp by making collage like patchwork batik pattern on a piece of dobby silk fabric

how do you think? no less beautiful than batik pen technique, isn't it? :)

batik motifs type: swastika and rereng
batik technique type: batik stamp
fabric type: dobby silk

The Swastika Beauty

The word swastika is derived from the Sanskrit word svastika, meaning any lucky or auspicious object, and in particular a mark made on persons and things to denote good luck. Swastika is probably the oldest type of motif used for batik. Swastika also known as Banji in Yogyakarta and Surakarta (Solo), and Angkin for some place in west java.
In this series, we experimented for something more simple, elegant but still sophisticated.
so we collaborate on some basic pleats and drapery techniques in batik with our custom made swastika motif.

complexity in simplicity
describe true image of modern Indonesian lady, right?

the happy-chaotic

We are always happy to play with other possible from existing theory. for example, do not apply the techniques of pleats on a patterned fabrics such as batik, as it might seem chaotic. but we wonder, what's the results when we collaborate the 'chaos' with stripes, pleats technique, and bright colors?

Voilaaa! it's fabulous and makes you smile like seeing candy!
Looks like a happy chaos in childhood... fresh and youthful when applied to these dresses!

And if you look closer, we use the batik motif called drintin which means zoo, so there's a wide range of unique typical fauna from west java, such as peacocks, rabbits, deer, and even frogs on the batik cloth.
cheerful and flirtatious, right?

We also tried using geometric motif such as Parang which applied to the asymmetric dress below.
and
surely you agree this is a very nice dress, isn't it?

Abstraction Purplish

We see batik as a wonderful traditional textile techniques in Indonesia.
Abstraction Purplish is an expression of our personal appreciation of the legendary batik techniques.
In this series, we do things considered impossible by the craftsmen of batik, which is doing batik process on synthetic polyester fabric.
By using bamboo motif's canting stamp from cimahi on polyester fabric that has been stitched and pleated (also after several unsuccessful attempts in recent experimental process)... finally we are proud to present a synthetic batik cloth that looks unique, beautiful, and abstractly surprise!
then our batik cloth applied to the simple dress design that looks stylish!
